    清迈是清迈府的首府，位于曼谷以北700公里处，坐落于改过最高的群峰之间。湄平河从该市城区穿过。全年气候分为干、湿两季，平均气温25.5摄氏度，森林面积广阔。

Chiangmai is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is 700 km north of Bangkok, among the highest mountains in the country. The city sits astride the Ping River. The climate here features distinctive  dry and wet seasons, with an average temperature of 25.5℃. There are vast forests. 

    清迈是泰国第二大城市，也是泰国北部政治、经济、文化的中心。

Chiangmai is the second largest city of Thailand, as well as the political, economic and cultural center of the northern Thailand. 

　　l 产业优势 Competitive industries

    清迈市的主要产业是旅游业和农业。其长期发展战略是以旅游业为支柱产业，大力发展第三产业。为了保护环境和旅游资源，清迈对工业项目规划了专门的工业园区。在市区内主要是金融业、商业、手工业、服务业及小型加工业等。工业主要以农产品加工、食品加工和装配业为主，无重工业。

Tourism and agriculture are two major industries in Chiangmai. The long-term development strategy of the city indicates that tourism is a pillar industry of the city and great efforts will be made to develop the tertiary industry. To protect the environment and tourism resources, Chiangmai has made plans for construction of specialized industrial parks for industrial projects. The industries in the urban area mainly include the finance, business, handicraft, service and small-scale processing industries. The industrial development mainly focuses on agricultural product processing, food processing and assembling industries. There is no heavy industry.

    清迈市的地理位置优越，交通四通八达，拥有高速公路、铁路、航空网络。特殊的地理位置及优越的交通条件，使清迈成为泰国北部商业和贸易中心，许多商品在此中转，再运往曼谷及泰国各地，或直接空运出口到许多国家和地区。

Chiangmai boasts excellent geographical location and integrated road, railway and air transportation network extending to all directions. Such conditions enable Chiangmai to become a business and trade center of the northern Thailand. Here many commodities are transferred to Bangkok and other cities of Thailand or exported to many other countries and regions in the world. 

　　l 旅游资源 Tourism resources

    清迈的天然环境优美，平均海拔300米，是泰国的高原城市，气候凉爽，是著名的避暑胜地。市内风景秀丽，遍植花草，尤以玫瑰花最为著名。在到到网（TripAdvisor）评出的《2014年世界最佳旅游胜地》的榜单上，泰国的两处旅游胜地上榜，其中之一便是清迈，位居第24位。

Chiangmai has beautiful natural landscape. It is a city in the highland, with an average elevation of 300 meters. With cool climate, it is a good summer resort. The urban area of the city also offers beautiful sceneries. It is widely covered by flowers and other plants, especially the roses.  Chiangmai was one of two tourist destinations in Thailand on TripAdvisor's 2014 list of "25 Best Destinations in the World", where it stands at number 24.

    清迈的工艺品闻名遐迩，木雕、漆器、银器、藤器、竹伞等工艺品远销国内外。其夜市尤具特色，各种商品琳琅满目，通宵达旦人声鼎沸，灯火通明，游人顾客摩肩接踵。

In addition, the handiworks of Chiangmai are very famous. Many of them, including wood carvings and sculptures, lacquer works, silverware, rattan articles and bamboo umbrellas, are supplied to both domestic and international markets. The night market is a characteristic of Chiangmai, always with a hubbub of voices all through the night and crowded tourists.

    清迈拥有32000多个酒店房间。清迈国际机场（CNX）是泰国第四大机场，仅次于曼谷的素万那普机场（BKK）和廊曼国际机场（DMK），以及普吉岛机场（HKT）。

Chiang Mai has more than 32,000 hotel rooms and Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) is Thailand's fourth largest, after Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) in Bangkok, and Phuket (HKT).

    据泰国会议展览局（TCEB）透露，在泰国的五年计划中，清迈将被打造成为一个全球化的会展城市。泰国会议展览局预测，至2013年，会展产业收入可增加至42.4亿泰铢，增长率达10%，会展游客数量可增至72424，增长率达5%。

It was learnt that Thailand intends to market Chiangmai as a global MICE city as part of a five-year plan. The TCEB forecasts revenue from MICE to rise by 10% to THB4.24 billion in 2013 and the number of MICE travelers to rise by 5% to 72,424.

　　l 历史文化 History and culture

       清迈曾是兰纳王国的首都，至今仍保留着很多珍贵的历史和文化遗迹。随着兰纳王国的败落，清迈这座城市也逐渐丧失了它的重要性，1556年，清迈被缅甸人占领。1775年，清迈正式成为泰王国的一部分。后来，清迈在文化、贸易及经济方面的重要性逐渐回升，如今已经成为泰国北部地区的中心城市，地位仅次于曼谷。

Chiangmai was a former capital of the Kingdom of Lanna. There are still many historical and cultural relics in Chiangmai today. With the decline of the Lanna Kingdom, the city lost importance and was occupied by the Burmese in 1556. Chiangmai formally became part of Siam in 1775. Chiangmai then slowly grew in cultural, trading, and economic importance to its current status as the unofficial capital of northern Thailand, second in importance only to Bangkok.

    至今这里还可看到兰那王国城墙旧址，城墙周长约两公里，有护城河环绕，城内高脚式的木制建筑、城门、古旧佛寺和纪念碑。泰国笃信佛教。清迈是一座寺庙众多、佛塔林立的城市，其中包括双龙寺香火旺盛，进香礼佛的善男信女络绎不绝。

There is the former site of the walls of the Kingdom of Lanna. The walls are about two kilometers long, surrounded by city moat, with wooden architectures, gates, ancient Buddhist temples and monument inside. Chiangmai has many temples and pagodas, including the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, which is worshipped by many Buddhists. 

   清迈也是泰国北部的文化教育中心。清迈大学等许多著名院校就设在这里。

Chiangmai is also the cultural and education center of the northern Thailand. There are a number of famous universities and colleges, such as the Chiangmai University. 

    与其丰富多彩的民族文化相应，清迈全年有着各种各样的节日。其中最重要的是泰历新年:宋干节和水灯节。

Corresponding to the diversified ethnic cultures, there are a great variety of festivals each year. Of them, the most important ones include the Songkran Festival and the Loi Krathong Festival.
